BANGKOK, Sept 9 (TNA) – Thailand and the US co-host the 11th
edition of the Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conference (IPACC), bringing together
army commanders to the biennial conference and related meetings in Bangkok.
Most senior army commanders in the Indo-Pacific region have
also attended 43rd Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS XLIII) and 5th
Senior Enlisted Leaders Forum (SELF) held simultaneously with IPACC from Monday
to Wednesday.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the
opening ceremony of the IPACC at a hotel in Bangkok on Monday morning.
He stressed on the main objective of the conference; to
promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through mutual
understanding, dialogue, and friendship.
The main challenge for the military leaders at all levels
was to adapt to new technologies that created threats in complex forms, the
retired army general who is also Defense Minister told the gathering.
The Conference is co-hosted by Commander-in-Chief of Royal
Thai Army General Apirat Kongsompong and Chief of Staff of the US Army Gen.
James C. McConville.
Participants in both IPACC and IPAMs are seeking stronger
security bilateral and multilateral cooperation through dialogue on the most
pressing security challenges in one of the globe’s most volatile regions.
In the 5th SELF, senior enlisted leaders and warrant
officers are given an opportunity to meet to share experiences and build
