NONTHABURI, Aug 19 (TNA) — The Department of Business Development organized a quick Chinese language course for vendors on Khao San Road to better convince Chinese tourists to buy goods and services.
Lalida Jivanantapravat, deputy director-general of the department, said her department and the Phra Nakhon district office brought Chinese-language teachers to teach Chinese to selected vendors on a two-day course this month.
The course was aimed at enabling vendors to describe their products and services to Chinese tourists instead of attempting sales through interpreters or improvised sign languages, she said.
Fifty vendors from Khao San Road participated in the course. They included 16 food vendors, 10 dessert and beverage vendors, 10 vendors who sell garments, shoes and bags, and five hair braiding and henna vendors.
The number of Chinese visitors to Khao San Road was growing and if the project was successful, the course would expand to other tourist attractions, Ms Lalida said. (TNA)
