BANGKOK, Aug 15 (TNA) – The Criminal Court on Thursday approved
police request to remand the two suspects who allegedly planted bombs at one of
several locations in a series of Bangkok bombings earlier this month.
The two men are accused of planting two small bombs in front
of the Royal Thai Police headquarters on August 1. The bombs were discovered hours before both
men, who are from Narathiwat province, were arrested while travelling on a bus
in Chumpon.
On the next day, several small bombs exploded at various
locations as Thailand was hosting an ASEAN meeting of foreign top diplomats
including those from China and the US.
Police brought the two men, aged 22 and 29, to the Criminal
Court in Bangkok on Thursday. The court
ordered detention as police conduct further investigation.
The suspects denied charges including explosive device possession
and attempted murder. They were later
sent to an army detention center instead of regular correctional facilities.
On Wednesday, police announced arrest warrants for four more
suspects and confirmed nearly 20 other suspects without providing details.
