BANGKOK, July 16 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha bade farewell as the chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) while mentioning achievements in the past five years of its administration.
Gen Prayut addressed the country in an 11-minute-long program via TV Pool on Monday night, saying the NCPO was set to disband on July 16 when cabinet ministers were to be sworn in.
He expressed his gratitude towards all parties for their cooperation with the NCPO in the past five years and said Thailand entered its true democratic government and there was no longer any special power to solve problems.
He thanked staff of the NCPO, national reform and reform-steering councils, the National Legislative Assembly and constitution drafters for their past work.
Regarding past achievements, Gen Prayut referred to national order and competitiveness, people’s development, the restoration of confidence among foreign parties, corruption suppression, the trial of stalled legal cases, civil aviation standards, solutions to human trafficking, illegal fishing and illegal migrant workers, national reform and the formulation of national strategies.
“Six or seven years ago, other countries saw us on the verge of being a failed state. As we are determined to restore the honor, order and goodness of the nation, we have done it well,” Gen Prayut said.
He encouraged people to recall national developments in the past years. (TNA)
