BANGKOK, March 8 (TNA) — The government’s senator-selection committee will submit its list of senatorial nominees to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) tomorrow, Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krea-ngam said.
The list was completed. It would be printed and sent to the NCPO chief within March 9 as scheduled, he said.
If selected nominees were in government service, they would have to resign from their positions before becoming senators, Mr Wissanu said.
The list comprised 400 nominees. The qualifications of the nominees in the last shortlist would be verified. Senators must not be the parents, spouses or children of House of Representatives, Mr Wissanu said, citing some qualifications of senators.
The selection committee told the NCPO to carefully check nominees’ profiles because the committee could not do it at this stage, said the deputy prime minister. The list of the nominees would not be disclosed, he stressed.
According to him, the NCPO will come up with the final list of 250 senators in three days after the certification of elected House representatives. The list will then be proposed for royal approval before the opening of the House of Representatives. (TNA)
