BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) – Bangrak district has cordoned off a crane collapse site, found to be modified without permission after ten students of Assumption Convent School were hurt in the accident on Wednesday.
The crane was used to construct addition of a condominium building and the crane could not bear excessive weight and fell onto the ground.
The building operator sought permission to modify the building into the 17-storey residential building in Nov 2017 but the officials’ inspection found that the modification was a change of its original utilization purpose, so the district ordered termination of the construction in April this year.
Earlier, construction materials from the site fell onto the school and nearby houses many times. The tripartite meeting of the building owner, the school and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration were held and the building owner promised to fix the problem.
The authorities announced the area off-limits until the building owner will seek permission for the building modification legally.
However, the crane, which collapsed this morning was legally installed with permission from the authorities. (TNA)
