BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) – Thailand holds a grand
celebration for the enthronement of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, filled with
traditional glittering performances and festivities from May 22 to 28.
Traditional and cultural performances combined with some
contemporary elements are the main part of the celebration called Mahorasop
Sompoch.
The main location of the week-long activities is Sanam Luang
ceremonial ground in Bangkok. Venues at
other provinces are designated for the celebration after the three-day coronation
ceremony earlier this month.
The Ministry of Culture who organises the celebration has
invited the public to the grand celebration and to honour venerable traditions
and customs of the Kingdom.
Following the opening ceremony chaired by Deputy Prime Minister
Wissanu Krea-ngam on Wednesday evening, performers showcased the majestic Khon
Masked Dance depicting the story of Ramayana epic.
On Monday, May 27, the main event at Sanam Luaung is devoted
for international performances featuring shows of Cambodia, China, India,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and
Vietnam.
On the last day, a
procession will carry tributes from four regions of Thailand in honouring His
Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn who was formally crowned on May 4 as the10th
King of the Chakri Dynasty. (TNA)
