BANGKOK, DEC 20 (TNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) holds a reception to mark the 185th anniversary of Thai-US diplomatic ties.
As one of many activities to celebrate relations between Thailand and the United States this year, the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized the Two Centuries of Thai-US Friendship and 185 Years of Diplomatic Relations’ reception at Museum Siam in Bangkok.
Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Damrong Kraikruan said in his remarks that Thai-US relationship would progress beyond the 185th year with an emphasis on people-to-people relations.
The Ministry was ready to promote and encourage people-to-people contacts in all dimensions, he said.
US Consul General Timothy Scherer congratulated Thailand for the upcoming election next year followed by an installment of civilian government. The United States looked to support Thailand for assuming ASEAN chair in 2019, he said.
Scherer, in the capacity of Acting Charge d’Affaires, said a new US Ambassador to Thailand would be appointed next year.
US Ambassador Glyn T. Davies completed his term in Thailand earlier this year.(TNA)
