BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) — Labour Minister Adul Sangsingkeo met the Japanese minister of justice and discussed the export of skilled Thai workers to Japan.
The Labour Ministry stated that Pol Gen Adul met Japanese Justice Minister Yamashita Takashi at the Japanese Ministry of Justice to discuss the labour supply under Japan’s new visa system as Japan plans to import 345,000 foreign workers in five years.
The Thai labour minister thanked the Japanese justice minister for the import of Thai workers and the protection of the people. He also expressed willingness to cooperate with the Japanese government on the labour supply, saying that his ministry would train Thai workers on Japanese language and culture before they travelled to Japan.
Mr Takashi said his ministry would take good care of Thai workers in Japan and would produce a handbook for Thai workers.
Under the new visa system of Japan, the skilled foreign workers who know Japanese language and have taken technical apprenticeships for three years can stay in Japan for up to five years but cannot bring along their families.
Highly skilled workers with managerial knowledge can stay in Japan for a long term with their families. Japan is importing such workers in 14 fields including elderly care, machinery and tools, aviation, hotel services, agriculture and shipbuilding. (TNA)
