BANGKOK, Feb 25 (TNA) – The Thailand Automotive Institute and TUV SUD Co from Germany signed an agreement to set up the first center to test batteries for electric vehicles in Southeast Asia. The center was scheduled for opening next year.
The project responds to Thailand’s plan to develop its electric vehicle industry. The Board of Investment has approved promotional privileges for eight well-known carmakers including Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and FOMM.
The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) sponsors the procurement of testing instruments and allows the new center to be constructed in the compound of the Automatic and Tyre Testing, Research and Innovation Center in Sanam Chai Khet district of Chachoengsao province.
TISI secretary-general Wanchai Phanomchai said batteries were the main components of electric vehicles and the TISI was working out standards for electric vehicles based on relevant standards including the UNECE R100 standard.
The battery standard center would help protect consumers from substandard products, he said.
TUV SUD Co is a world-class testing, inspection and certification organization with its 150 years of experiences and more than 1,000 branches worldwide. (TNA)
