BANGKOK, DEC 19 (TNA) – High school band members are
praised for preventing a Chinese man from committing suicide at a bridge in
Bangkok Monday night.
Wat Suthiwararam School students were busking on the street
right by King Tak Sin Bridge in Bangkok Monday night to raise fund for their
school’s music contest when they noticed the 30-year-old man’s suicidal sign.
The tourist left them 1,500 yuan in the donation box before
headed to the bridge over the Chao Phraya River. The students felt the sum was too large and
wanted to return the man his money. That
was when they learned the man had intended to commit suicide.
They started to console the man who just lost members of his
families. It took them for hours until police and other Chinese-speaking people
joined them. The man was finally calm and gave up his intention.
After the morning assembly on Wednesday, school director
Aree Weeracharoen presented virtue certificates in recognition of their action
to the 13 students.
Aree said the school was proud of the students for their
acts in line with one of the school’s mottos “Sutthiwararam Gentleman.”
The students also received praise from social media users.
Chayutpong Duangkawe, one of the group, said he did not
expect much praise from this.
“The good deeds we made will encourage us to
do more good things for the society, even when nobody sees,” he said. (TNA)
