BANGKOK, DEC 10 (TNA) – Seven Chinese nationals have been
arrested for taking American College Testing (ACT) exams on behalf of others
who allegedly hired them to do so at some test locations in Thailand.
Thai police uncovered the hired test takers who took the
exams on behalf of the real Chinese applicants at Mahidol University and NIST
International School on Friday and Saturday.
The exam provider informed Thai police of irregularities
regarding test fee payments for multiple applications by real Chinese
candidates, said Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Surachet Hakpan in a
press briefing on Monday.
When police questioned the test takers at the two locations,
they simply gave wrong answers about passport information, he said.
The suspects, one of them was an American-born Chinese,
confessed that they were hired to take the US university admission test for
10,000 to 20,000 yuan each time; he added.
They had been hired several times for tests in many
countries, said Pol Lt-General Surachet.
All of them, including Wang Jie who was leading the scandal,
have been charged for forgery. (TNA)
