BANGKOK, Nov 26 (TNA) – Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat announced that Thailand is ready for hosting the 2018 Miss Universe Pageant that will be highlighting Thai themes to the world.
Mr Weerasak said that 95 participants will be taking part in the event and some of them have already arrived Thailand. It is expected that all will arrive by December 2 after which a charity auction dinner will be organised.
After this, the contestants will be taken to beauty camps in Chiang Mai, Lampun, Krabi, Samut Sakon, Suphan Buri and Pattaya before the final round which will be held at Muang Thong Thani complex in Nonthaburi at 7am (local time) on Dec 17.
Thailand hosted the 41st pageant in 1992, followed by the 54th in 2005. Two Thais were crowned Miss Universe: Apasara Hongsakula in 1964 and Porntip Nakhirunkanok in 1988.
Mr Wirasak said that his ministry had approached the Ministry of Interior to coordinate with the Governors of the various provinces to ensure that the highest degree of convenience and organisation is provided to make the event a success. He said that demands for tickets for the final judging ceremony was very high.
Furthermore, the Minister stated that the event would be extremely prestigious for Thailand as it would be broadcast to the entire world. He stated that for this year’s pageant the ministry has stressed the promotion of Thai themes that will allow the contestants to actively participate in rural community activities. While at the camps the women will not only be given the chance of enjoying famed Thai cuisine but also experience firsthand Thai culture in its purest form in rural communities. (TNA)
