BANGKOK, Nov 20 (TNA) — The Royal Thai Police Office has announced its safety measures for the upcoming Loy Krathong festival including some do’s and don’ts and precautions for festival participants.
Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Chalermkiat Sriworakan held a video conference with provincial police officers to brief them on the measures for the Loy Krathong festival on Nov 22.
There will be four main venues of the festival in Bangkok: Asiatique with 10,000-20,000 expected visitors; Rama VIII Bridge with 10,000 people, ICONSIAM with 50,000 people and Chulalongkorn University with 5,000 people.
The police anticipate about 20 venues with more than 1,000 people each in other provinces.
Pol Gen Chalermkiat said people were prohibited from lighting fireworks, firecrackers and floating lanterns, firing guns skyward and drinking while driving. He also recommended revelers refrain from wearing provocative clothes, letting children go to festive venues alone and visiting risky places.
Besides, people should beware of pickpockets, sexual abuses and waterway accidents, he said.
The Royal Thai Police Office would deploy 55,000 police to secure Loy Krathong venues and put 10,000 more officers on standby, he said. (TNA)
