BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) — A Thai-Japanese food innovation center was opened at the National Food Institute to promote bilateral cooperation and improve Thai products.
Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak presided over the ceremony to open the Mie-Thailand Innovation Center.
On the occasion he also accepted a 25-million-yen extruder machine from Suehiro EPM Corp of Japan.
The center will apply the machine to develop Thai processed food products.
The food innovation center represents the first step of food procession cooperation between the Board of Investment and Mie prefecture.
Japan is Thailand’s biggest food trading partner while Thailand is Japan’s fourth biggest trading partner in the same category.
Thailand is expected to export foods worth at least 130 billion baht to Japan this year. The value will be close to the figure last year. The export is predicted to rise by 8% to 140 billion baht next year.
“The Mie-Thailand Innovation Center will start cooperation between Mie prefecture and Thailand, develop human resources in the industrial sector and expand cooperation on trade, investment and tourism in the future,” Mr Somkid said.
Mie governor Eikei Suzuki said that apart from the donated extruder, Mie authorities would also hold seminars at the new center to introduce food procession technology of Mie. (TNA)
