MARRAKESH, Oct 31 (TNA) – The Agriculture Minister met the Director-General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) to discuss control on animal diseases and antimicrobial resistance in the agricultural sector.
Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Grisada Boonrach attended the Second OIE Global Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance and Prudent Use of Antimicrobial Agents in Animals held in Marrakesh, Morocco. The conference gathered representatives from about 10 countries that have made progress in reducing antimicrobial resistance in the agricultural sector.
On the occasion, the minister met OIE director-general Monique Eloit. The latter said that OIE was aware of Thailand’s determination to control rabies and OIE supported the effort and donated rabies vaccines to Thailand.
Besides, OIE is developing Thailand as one of its five centers to train veterinarians on animal disease control. Other centers are in France, the United States, Argentina and Senegal.
Mr Grisada thanked Ms Eloit for OIE’s establishment of its Southeast Asian office in Thailand, saying the office allowed relevant Thai organizations to work closely with OIE.
He also said Thailand was willing to cooperate with OIE on animal diseases and antimicrobial resistance. (TNA)
