BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) – The Civil Court on Thursday dismissed a petition by the Bhumjaithai Party to bar former politician Chuvit Kamolvisit from its major campaign rally before the election on Sunday.
Chuvit has campaigned against the Bhumjaithai Party’s cannabis policy, urging voters to join him.
The party sued Chuvit for undermine the party’s popularity and sought the temporary injunction to bar Chuvit from coming close to the party’s major rally, holding a press conference, criticizing the party and its candidates before the election.
The court dismissed the request for the temporary injunction, saying people have the constitutional rights for freedom of expression and participation in the campaign rally held in a public place. To bar him from the campaign site restricts his right.
If Chuvit creates chaos at the party’s event on May 12, he will face criminal action. If he gives false statement to slander the party, he will be subject to pay compensation to the plaintiff. People can use their own judgement to make a decision in choosing candidates, the court said. (TNA)
