BANGKOK, Dec 15 (TNA) – Phuket generated the highest tourism-related revenue among all provinces, at 127.93 billion baht, according to deputy government spokeswoman Tipanan Sirichana.
Ms Tipanan said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha initiated the Phuket Sandbox scheme to start country reopening to welcome visitors to the island province. The scheme was successful and expanded to other provinces before the complete country reopening, she said.
She also said that public health measures and cooperation from people and officials led to the economic recovery, especially that of the tourism sector which saw V-shape development. The country welcomed an unexpectedly high number of 10 million visitors this year as of Dec 10.
Ms Tipanan said the country generated considerable tourism-related revenue from January to October this year. The highest revenue, 127.93 billion baht, was earned in Phuket, followed by 13.28 billion baht in Chon Buri, 7.59 billion baht in Surat Thani, 4.25 billion baht in Chiang Mai and 3.60 billion baht in Songkhla.
The most visitors, 2.33 million, went to Phuket, followed by 975,026 to Chon Buri, 606,812 to Surat Thani, 581,808 to Songkhla and 496,111 to Chiang Mai.
As for their countries of origin, the most visitors, 1.29 million, were from Malaysia, followed by 698,757 from India and 381,940 from Singapore. Other sources of many visitors were Laos, Vietnam, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, Cambodia and Germany. (TNA)
