BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) – Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to intensify cooperation in cracking down on transnational call center operations, according to Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.
Following the 17th General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between the two nations held in Thailand, Phumtham and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Seiha highlighted the widespread damage caused by these criminal networks.
The discussions led to the establishment of a joint coordination center, with Thailand’s Inspector General of Police acting as the key liaison with Cambodian police and the Ministry of Interior, aiming for a comprehensive eradication of the scam operations.
Separately, the GBC also addressed ASEAN cooperation regarding potential U.S. tax measures, though no definitive conclusions were reached. The focus was on developing strategies to mitigate the impact of trade conflicts and geopolitical risks posed by major powers, emphasizing regional unity to enhance negotiating leverage.
Furthermore, Phutham addressed the recent military tensions near Ta Muen Thom temple, stating that both sides have agreed to de-escalate the situation. Troops will return to their original positions, exercising restraint.
Discussions at the government and top military levels of both countries have taken place, with commanders on the ground tasked with working out the details peacefully. -819 (TNA)
