BANGKOK, Sept 5 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) launched its campaign for the separation of food waste from other garbage and also introduced its new garbage trucks that have special compartments to carry food waste.
Starting the project, Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt said it was aimed at encouraging people to sort waste again because earlier Bangkok’s garbage collectors mixed garbage even though people already sorted it.
The project was initially implemented in Pathumwan, Phaya Thai and Nong Khaem districts where there were lots of condominium buildings and other kinds of residences. It would expand to 47 other districts next year. To encourage people to sort waste, the BMA was handing out green waste bags for people to use to contain their food waste in particular, Mr Chadchart said.
He said garbage collection cost the BMA as much as 10 billion baht a year and the City Hall would use food waste to produce gas for electricity generation. (TNA)
