CHIANG MAI, July 9 (TNA) – A total of 30 mahouts from
different parts of the country have completed a 30-day training course to
become professional elephant keepers.
They attended the certificates presentation ceremony held at
Chiang Mai Rajabhat University on Monday.
Dr Boonta Chailert, head of Mae Taeng Elephant Camp who
initiated the training programme, said the elephant mahouts held important role
in rearing, training and handling the jumbos.
The ‘Basic Professional Mahout Training Course’ was designed
to produce professional mahouts with intensive practical training, he said.
Trainers and lecturers are from the National Elephant
Institute, Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Veterinarian and Chiang Mai Rajabhat
University.
After receiving their certificates, the class of 2019
graduates listened to a seminar on world’s renowned Thai elephant culture from
