BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) – The Supreme Administrative Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition against the Senate-selection process.
The petition was lodged by the group, calling themselves Thai Citizens of the Nation. It claimed the order of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), appointing the Senate selection panel was illegal with the appointment of the committee members, who were not politically neutral.
The Supreme Administrative Court upheld a lower court ruling to dismiss the petition on the grounds that the matter was exercising power under the constitution, which did not involve the conduct of administrative affairs.
The NCPO order to appoint the Senate selection panel was not the exercise of administrative authority, the court said.
The coordinator of the petition group said the Senate selection was not in accordance with the democratic principles and it would further lodge petitions to the United Nations and the European Union. (TNA)
