SONGKHLA, June 20 (TNA) – Thai police arrested 35 illegal
migrants from Myanmar in a palm plantation in Songkhla province Wednesday
night, as they were waiting for transport to Malaysia.
The group of 21 males and 14 females were hiding in the
plantation in Sadao district bordering Malaysia. They were camping out but appeared ready to
be smuggled across the border.
Thai police also found a Myanmar national who was a
caretaker of the undocumented migrants.
The caretaker told police that there was another group of
Myanmar migrants hiding out somewhere in a jungle of Sadao district.
Thai authorities have arrested many groups of illegal
migrant workers, mostly from the state of Rakhine, who paid labor agents to
smuggle them to Malaysia. (TNA)
