CHON BURI, May 30 (TNA) — Officials of the Pollution Control Department collected samples of seawater for examination after a recent fire on a cargo ship at the Laem Chabang port.
In response to the fire on KMTC Hongkong ship on May 25, the department stated that seawater was sampled at six locations at the port on May 28 to examine possible contamination with total petroleum hydrocarbon, residue chlorine and pesticides.
It also said that staff of the port retrieved a cargo container earlier thrown into the sea.
Officials also checked air quality at the port and nearby communities and found a small level of formaldehyde at 0.0-0.1 ppm. They did not detect total volatile compounds or chlorine gas at the fire scene and nearby communities.
Staff of the Pollution Control Department’s branch in nearby Rayong province will keep checking air quality in the area until contaminated water is completely drained from the cargo ship. (TNA)
