BANGKOK, April 22 (TNA) – The Central Administrative Court will on April 24 rule on whether bus fares should increase.
Proponents of higher bus fares and an activist who oppose a fare hike testified at the court on April 22. Activist Srisuwan Janya earlier asked the court to reject the raised fares of buses under the supervision of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and Transport Co. The fare increase took effect on April 22.
After the court’s hearing, Mr Srisuwan said the court sought information on the operating costs of buses from the BMTA and Transport Co and would lay down its order on April 24.
Patarawadee Klomcharoon, president of the Association of Bus Operators, said the fare hike was necessary due to the rising costs of fuel including gas. About 2,000 passenger buses had been out of business due to their higher costs and about 1,000 more would follow suit if the fare increase was revoked, she said. (TNA)
