BANGKOK, March 30 (TNA) — Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered concerned government agencies to combat small dust particles known as PM2.5 in the North, especially in Chiang Mai, which is ranked one of the five countries in the world to have worst air pollution.
According to an assistant government spokesman, Gen Prayut had received reports on PM2.5 prevailing in the North and had ordered authorities of several government agencies, especially in the region, to explore ways to solve the problem.
People in the North must also cooperate with officials, the assistant spokesman quoted the prime minister as saying.
Gen Prayut had mentioned that the main causes of the smog and dust in the North come from bushfires which occurred naturally during summer season plus burning of trees and leaves by villagers, the assistant spokesman said.
Currently, concerned government officials are working hard to solve the problem and had enforced law in an attempt to eliminate the problem, he said.
Chiang Mai officials are now trying to control bushfires as well as spraying water in the provincial seat and set up the safety zones for the people to have space to relax. (TNA)
