BANGKOK, March 22 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha guarantees the Thai government’s continuous support for the work of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
Gen Prayut extended his message when ESCAP executive secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana called on him to introduce herself on the occasion of assuming the post.
The prime minister said that the Thai government was willing to maintain its support for ESCAP for the benefits and prosperity of Asia and the Pacific.
Ms Alisjahbana thanked the Thai government for its steady support for ESCAP’s work and praised the government’s initiative of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for Sustainable Development Goals Partnership which, she said, helped improve the life of people in developing countries.
She hoped Thailand and ESCAP would increase their cooperation on sustainable development.
She also mentioned that ESCAP would organize the 6th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindorn would attend and give an address in the ESCAP annual conference.
Gen Prayut said Thailand, as chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), would promote cooperation between ASEAN and ESCAP for the sake of sustainable ASEAN. (TNA)
