UBON RATCHATHANI, March 2 (TNA) — After Thailand’s Election Commission gives the green light to Palang Pracharath Party allowing Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha to deliver his first speech aimed at canvassing votes for a general election to be held late this month, the party is optimistic that he would be at the podium on March 10.
Uttama Savanayana, leader of the party, told journalists that members of his party which have nominated Gen Prayut as prime minister in the election to be organised on March 24 are discussing suitable date and an appropriate time for the prime minister to deliver speech.
Several political parties have urged Gen Prayut to join in a political debate, especially on policies of Palang Pracharath Party that what the party would do if it wins the election and forms a government.
But Gen Prayut has said he is not interested in their ideas, reiterating that their speeches are just mudslinging against each other and there is nothing new after a military coup which the military launched slightly more than five years ago.
Mr Uttama, a former industry minister in the government of Gen Prayut, said senior members of his party would also discuss with Gen Prayut whether he is prepared to deliver the speech to the people.
His speech is vital because it could boost morale of the party members, said Mr Uttama.
Besides nominating Gen Prayut as prime minister by Palang Pracharath Party in the upcoming election, several other political parties also give support to the general to become head of a new government. (TNA)
