BANGKOK, Feb 25 (TNA) — The Election Commission (EC) has asked provincial governors and district chiefs to closely supervise early voting on March 17 and field politically neutral officials at polling units.
Election Commissioner Thawatchai Thoedpaothai told a meeting with provincial governors and district chiefs that they should monitor the early voting closely because a large number of eligible voters registered for it.
He said he was concerned about the distribution of ballots to the voters because they would have to receive ballots of their districts and officials would have to advise voters on correct marks on ballots.
The commissioner also asked local authorities to work out plans to respond to untoward incidents before and after the March 24 polling date, such as possible rainstorms, flooding and blackouts.
Besides, Mr Thawatchai urged concerned officials assigned to polling units on islands to carefully plan the transport of ballot boxes. (TNA)
