SONGKHLA, Jan 23 (TNA) – A prison in Thailand’s southern
Songkhla province introduces video-calling services for inmates.
Songkhla Prison is one at least five correctional facilities
in Thailand that have experimented using Line mobile application’s video calls
for inmates.
To use the service, inmates’ relatives and visitors need to
download the application and add the prison’s administration as friend.
Prison commander Padej Ringroj said the service helped
reduce transportation costs for the inmates’ families and conveniently talk
with the inmates.
Each conversation period was limited at 20 minutes, the same
as regular visit, and subject to strict monitoring by officers, he said.
The new service received positive response from both inmates
and their visitors during the trial, said Padej.
Adopting technology in the visiting system saved the
prison’s budget as well, he said.(TNA)
