BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) – The Thai government showcases the
performance and success of the National Village and Urban Community Fund in
transforming people’s livelihood and rural development.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha opened the event at Muang
Thong Thani convention center on Thursday.
The project’s main feature is to provide funding for
villages which present proposals for grassroots economic development and
improvements to quality of life.
In the past three years, the scheme has resulted in over
70,000 development funds enhancing grassroots economy.
Prime Minister Prayut said his government had emphasized
transparency and effectiveness of funding for rural projects to strengthen
local economies. He urged villagers and
community leaders to optimize the project for sustainable development for
people’s better quality of living.
The National Village and Urban Community Fund has allocated
budgets for villages’ projects, interest-free loans and community
infrastructure development.
Prayut said his government also aimed at equipping local
communities with knowledge about laws, digital technology, accounting,
financial planning and marketing.
Another key principle of this fund was to embrace His
Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s “sufficiency economy philosophy”
based on the self-reliance concept, he said.
Prayut then presented awards for outstanding village
projects and visited exhibition of village schemes.(TNA)
