BANGKOK, Dec 22 (TNA) – All 75,000 villages nationwide will be connected to high-speed internet within next year thanks to contribution from Total Access Communication PCL (DTAC).
Digital Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj said the high-speed internet service for nationwide villages had been implemented and coverage spanned most of the 75,000 villages throughout the country.
The installation had yet to be completed for only about 18,000 villages and the task should finish within next year, the minister said.
Therefore, next year would be a milestone to the digital age because community-based enterprises could become smart farmers’ enterprises, he said.
According to the minister, DTAC together with the ministries of digital economy and society, education, commerce, and agriculture and cooperatives are developing about 340,000 online community-based shops that will benefit from the high-speed internet project for villages.
DTAC chief executive Alexandra Reich said knowledge and skills on digital technology were fundamental to the development of a digital society and DTAC was contributing to the digital equality to support the United Nations’ 10th Sustainable Development Goal for reduction in inequality. (TNA)
