BANGKOK, Dec 19 (TNA) — The cabinet is pushing for the passage of a cybersecurity law to cope with hackers and protect people in the digital age.
Digital Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj said the cabinet already approved the bill that was important in the era of the digital economy and was of international standard.
The bill was aimed at coping with simultaneous attacks by many abusers on government websites, the use of malwares to demand ransoms, and the theft of personal data on online systems, he said.
With the bill, the government intended to protect financial institutions, logistics, energy security, public utilities, telecommunications, health services and national security, the minister said.
The bill would allow the government to seek court orders to stop cyber attacks. Besides, a cybersecurity office was designed to supervise cybersecurity operations and a digital council would be established to invite the private sector to take part in protecting the digital economy, Mr Pichet said.
