BANGKOK, Dec 5 (TNA) — Serious narcotic suppression resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs worth 4.5 billion baht in November, said the spokesman of the Defence Ministry.
Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit quoted a report to Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon as saying that in November alone huge lots of illicit drugs were seized because smugglers were trying to increasingly transport them into Thailand, mainly through border areas in the North and the Northeast as well as through the sea off the southern provinces of Chumphon and Ranong.
He said that authorities seized 29 million speed pills, 132 kilograms of crystal meth, 274 kilograms of heroin, and 10,000 kilograms of marijuana, opium and kratom and arrested 12,118 suspects in November.
Lt Gen Kongcheep said Gen Prawit ordered authorities to seriously block smugglers along the border and raid narcotic storage places inside the country. He also ordered health officials to effectively rehabilitate drug addicts, the defence spokesman said. (TNA)
