BANGKOK, Nov 23 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha encourages young people to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming election next year and support the country’s democratic transition process.
Over 600 members of youth associations including the Children and Youth Council of Thailand met Prayut at Government House on Friday as part a national campaign drawing young people in the fight against corruption.
The participants pledged to partake in social forces to tackle domestic violence and promote the rule of law. The Council, then, presented its annual report to the prime minister.
Gen Prayut told the gathering that the young generations represented the country’s hope for the country to progress in the right direction. Therefore, the youths must thrive in the digital age urging them to digest information with critical thinking.
The prime minister who is also leader of the military junta called on the young eligible voters to be active politically by learning their rights, electoral process and democratic values.
After the 2014 military coup, the government and the Election Commission are planning for general election on February 24, next year. Although the preparations are underway many speculate that the election might be delayed to a later date citing some legal complications.(TNA)
