BANGKOK, March 27 (TNA) — Police are operating their checkpoints around Bangkok at 12 locations in a bid to control the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), focusing on inter-provincial travelers.
Inspecting some of the checkpoints, deputy national police chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk said preparations were underway at the checkpoints and they should start their full-scale operation in 3-4 days.
Initially police would check travelers during light traffic periods to minimize traffic impacts. During traffic congestion hours, motorists would be allowed to pass through checkpoints without a stopover, he said.
The checkpoints would affect commuters and their operation could be intensified later when that was needed, Pol Gen Suwat said.
The 12 checkpoints stand at Chaeng Watthana Road on Klong Prapa canal, Suwinthawong Road under Mahanakhon expressway, Kanchanaphisek Soi 39 Road, Sukhumvit Road near the Bearing station of BTS train system, Rachaphruek Road in front of a Toyota showroom, Suksawat Road under Bhumibol Bridge, Rama II Soi 92 Road, Phetkasem Road in front of Asia University, Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in front of Don Muang airport’s cargo warehouse, Thepparat Road in front of the Nation Building, Burapa Withi expressway at Bang Chak gate, and Don Mueang tollway at Don Mueang 1 gate.
