BANGKOK, Dec
16 (TNA) – The Royal Forest Department will give away five million seeds of 23
valuable trees to people across the country as the New Year’s gifts.
Atthapol
Charoenchansa, director-general of the department said that the seeds of valuable tree
species such as Burmese Rosewood, Siamese Rosewood, Black Rosewood and Ironwood
will be distributed in more than 100,000 packages at all districts nationwide
between Dec 28 to Jan 1.
Each pack will have QR codes that can be scanned for information
on planting the seeds, he said.
People can plant the seeds on their own lands to increase green
areas in the future and these valuable trees can be turned into income in the
future, he added.
Meanwhile, Nanthana Boonyanan, spokeswoman of the Royal Forest Department said about the New
Year campaign that the department would set up 197 rest areas in 24 provinces
for travellers from Dec 28 – Jan 1, so motorists can relax during their
long journey, when the mass exodus normally causes congestion on main
highways.
Moreover, recreational activities will be organized at urban
forests. People are invited to visit urban forests, where New Year activities
will be held between Dec 30 to Jan 1.
She said visitors can enjoy nature study trials, cycling,
traditional music performances, green
