NONTHABURI, Nov 4 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today attended the ASEAN+3 meeting that focused on plans to cope with trade barriers.
The 35th ASEAN Summit today began with the ASEAN+3 meeting of Southeast Asian nations and three dialogue partners namely China, Japan and South Korea. On the occasion, Gen Prayut expressed his condolences to Japan for its losses related to Typhoon Hagibis. He also voiced his satisfaction on the possibility that negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership were likely to lead to its signing next year.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang said ASEAN+3 was a success amid increasing pressures and challenges and it would help the countries cope with situations.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in likened ASEAN+3 to birds that were building their nest in a storm and had yet to prove if their nest could withstand the storm. ASEAN+3 covered one-third of global economies and the International Monetary Fund predicted that 90% of global economies would suffer trade recession.Therefore, RCEP-related cooperation to fight against trade barriers was necessary, he said. The South Korean president hoped that the ASEAN+3 meeting would support cooperation and protect future trade.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe encouraged member countries to stop producing marine plastic waste within 2050 in accordance with the Osaka Blue Ocean Vision. (TNA)
