NONTHABURI, Oct 7 (TNA) – Thailand has become the world’s sixth largest exporter of pet food, moving up from seventh last year, said a senior commerce official.
Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Auramon Supthaweethum said Thailand’s pet food exports were promising with increasing value despite economic slowdown.
Export value in the first eight month of this year was 1.1 billion USD, a 4-per cent growth year-on-year.
Key trade partners are ASEAN countries, the United States, Japan, the European Union and Australia, she said.
Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) between Thailand and other countries have significantly contributed to the growth in export value of pet food after each pact was put into effect.
The first FTA between Thailand and other ASEAN countries came into force in 1992.
Export value of pet food to ASEAN countries rose 6,021 per cent, to China 3,969 per cent and to South Korea, 526 per cent, she added.
Dog and cat food accounted for the lion’s share of 92 per cent. (TNA)
