NONTHABURI, Sept 19 (TNA) – A heavy rainstorm knocked
down dozens of electric poles Wednesday night, causing blackout in Nonthaburi
province.
People of thousands of households in Nonthaburi spent the
night without power after the fierce storm wreaked havoc in the province
located just north of Bangkok.
The heavy rain also caused the ceiling of a shopping mall to
collapse, sending shoppers fleeing out of the complex. Pieces of the ceiling fell on to the ground
floor just before the mall’s closing time.
There was a brief power blackout at the time. No one has been injured in the incident.
In Bang Bua Thong district, over 30 electricity poles
collapsed, falling on to vehicles and houses.
Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has sent worker to
repair the storm damages and restore power for people.
Temporary electricity service was available in some parts of
the affected areas. But MEA officials
say the repair work would be complete Thursday evening.(TNA)
