BANGKOK, Sept 11 (TNA) — The government is effectively solving flood problems and its war room is among its solutions, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said.
The government was introducing right solutions to water and flood problems and the Interior Ministry was implementing them. The water management war room headed by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon was tasked with accelerating and facilitating the implementation because water-related problems were national problems, Gen Prayut said.
According to the prime minister, the government has master plans for 23 of 25 river basins nationwide and in the past five years, its water management projects were four times as much as those of other governments.
The projects have considerably reduced the government’s costs in helping victims of water-related problems.
Ongoing flooding in many areas resulted from torrential rain and the government was closely monitoring impacts, Gen Prayut said.
He also said that financial assistance for flood victims was huge and had to be spent with transparency.
The government had measures to cope with flooding including water retention areas and its continuous solutions were alleviating the problem, Gen Prayut said. (TNA)
