CHAI NAT, Sept 5 (TNA) – The Royal Irrigation Department has discharged more water to central provinces downstream as the water level in the Chao Phraya River is rising due to accumulated rainfall in the North.
People, living downstream asked the authorities to release water during the day, so they could prepare for possible flooding.
The authorities said water discharge from the Chao Phraya dam has increased progressively to prevent flooding low-lying farmlands downstream and will not cause rapid overflowing of water.
Today, it released water at 750 cubic metre per second and it will have no impact to areas inside the flood embankments.
Meanwhile, in the southern province of Ranong, overnight rain triggered landslide, blocking a portion of Phetchakasem Road that heads to Kraburi district.
Officials are clearing debris to open the road to traffic. Local residents in at-risk areas were instructed to move their belongings to higher ground. (TNA)
