SUKHOTHAI, Sept 4 (TNA) – Sukhothai governor
reaffirmed that the province can handle the ongoing flood situation and the
Sukhothai Historical Park and tourist sites are now safe from flood.
Maitree Traitilanan said the overflowing Yom River
has affected five districts – Muang, Kong Krailat, Khiri Mat, Si Samrong and
Sawankalok.
Authorities have
monitored the water level every half an hour and high pressure water pumps
have been deployed to 10 flood-prone locations in the town’s business areas.
The Sukhothai Historical Park, the Si Satchanalai Historical Park, the Ramkhamhaeng National Park and other natural attractions
have not affected by flooding. Tourists can travel to these destinations as
normal, he confirmed.
Many outer areas in Sukhothai have been hard-hit by
flood.
The governor said last night, the Yom River burst
its banks and overflowed into several low-lying villages and some areas have
been under two metres of water. Rescuers evacuated the elderly and bedridden
patients from their homes to safe places. (TNA)
