YALA, Aug 21 (TNA) – Seven people were wounded in a
series of bomb attacks in the southern Yala province on Tuesday night.
The bomb blasts at several locations including ATMs in five
districts of Yala overnight caused minor damage to properties.
Forensic police and bomb squad inspected the scenes on
Wednesday morning to collect evidence. They found and disposed an unexploded
time bomb.
The first bomb exploded at around 7.10 pm Tuesday at a
roadside power pole in Yaha district, injuring two villagers and causing a
power blackout. Minutes later another explosion damaged a telephone signal
tower in Bannang Sata district where attackers also set car tires on fire.
A third bomb damaged a power pole in Mueang district. Around
8.15 pm, a bomb exploded at an ATM of Krungthai Bank in Than To district. Five
people, including children aged 7 and 11, were slightly injured. Another bomb exploded outside a grocery shop
nearby.
Local police said the Yala attacks were not linked to the
bombings in Bangkok early this month, citing different tactic and explosive.
Yala provincial administration has planned to hand out
compensations to the injured people.
In Bangkok, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said he
instructed security forces to bring the culprits to justice and provide assistance
to affected people.
Deputy army chief General Nattapol Nakpanich said on
Wednesday the attacks had no significant implications to insurgent movement
while assuring full-force security operations to ensure the public safety.
