BANGKOK, Oct 22 (TNA) — Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday welcomed the Vice President of Panama in her first official visit to the kingdom where she expressed her country’s willingness to become the gateway into Latin America for Thailand.
Deputy government spokesman Lt Gen Weerachon Sukondhapatipak said that Vice President of the Republic of Panama Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado was warmly received by Gen Prayut in her first official visit to Thailand. Mrs Alvarado also Foreign Minister of Panama.
Lt Gen Weerachon revealed that Gen Prayut had extended the warmest welcome to Ms Alvarado. Her trip represents the highest ranking official visit from the republic. Gen Prayut took the opportunity to formally thank the Panama government for inviting Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to Panama and hoped that both countries would nurture the mutual regard and friendly relations with each other.
“Prime Minister Gen Prayut had told Ms Alvarado that Panama is one of the world’s most important hub for commercial shipping and cargo and her visit was an invaluable stepping stone for establishing links for trade between Asia to Latin American countries. Gen Prayut says that he hoped that Thailand and Panama will investigate the possibility of establishing links between Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to Panama’s incredible port facility so that both can enjoy the mutual benefits of improved trade” said Lt Gen Weerachon.
Lt Gen Weerachon said that Ms Alvarado had responded by confirming that Panama was ready to expand relations and cooperation with Thailand in every aspect in particular to joint promotion of tourism and trade and was willing to act as gateway into Latin America for Thailand. (TNA)
