BANGKOK, Jan 7 — Thai government agencies nationwide are preparing for diverse activities in celebration of national Children's Day on Saturday.
Bangkok Deputy Governor Amorn Kitchawengkul said today that City Hall will hold National Children's Day activities at the Wachira Benjathat Park, also known as Suan Rot Fai on Saturday, as well as giving out 287 scholarships to outstanding youths.
At the same time, the BTS Skytrain would be provided rides to children with the height of 140 centimetres or less for free the whole day.
Pohtecktung Foundation president Dr Samarn Opaswong presented 480,000 stationery sets, worth well over 28 million baht to 250 Bangkok and suburban schools, and central and regional foundation representatives, so that they could be given to children on children's day.
Meanwhile, Wat Mongkol Theparam in Hat Yai district will hold its first children's day activities to encourage more children to visit the temple.
The temple has planned a Buddhism quiz to instill more virtue and morality in the young, as youth today are often outstanding in academic and technological spheres, but lack wisdom and moral strength.
The Department of Mental Health, in the meantime, will present 15,000 kits on basic mathematics, reading skills, and EQ development on children's day at mental health hospitals and mental health offices nationwide. (MCOT online news)
