BANGKOK, Sept 28 (TNA) – Like authorities in other provinces, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has installed pumps in flood-prone areas and prepared 2.5 million sandbags to cope with the imminent impacts of Storm Noru.
Deputy Bangkok governor Wisanu Subsompon said Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt put all BMA officials on standby to cope with the incoming storm.
The City Hall had already discharged water from local canals and sought more pumps from the Royal Irrigation Department and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for installation in flood-prone districts including Prawet and Lat Krabang, Mr Wisanu said.
Besides, the BMA distributed 2.5 million more sandbags throughout the capital and expected them to help ready the capital to cope with rainwater from Storm Noru.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda had a teleconference from Phitsanulok province with governors of the provinces that would be affected by the storm.
He told the provincial governors to identify the local areas that would be hit by the storm and prepare effective responses for the areas.
Noru would be the first storm that would this year directly strike the country which had earlier been affected only by monsoon troughs and low-pressure systems, Gen Anupong said. (TNA)
