BANGKOK, Feb 17 — The Metropolitan Police Bureau has installed a so called 'Push for Life' button at a popular shopping centre in Bangkok for the public to report an emergency or ask for assistance.
The device installed in front of the Central Plaza Grand Rama IX shopping center is part of the police’s ‘Police Help Me’ project, aimed at improving public safety.t
Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy commissioner Pol Maj Gen Chantawit Ramasut presided over a ceremony to install the 'Push for Life' button at the shopping centre on Tuesday.
Gen Chantawit said the 'Push for Life' button project represents cooperation between the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Central Pattana Pcl, aimed at helping reduce the damages and losses during an emergency situation.
It provides another channel for the public apart from the 191 call to contact police, he said.
Police Maj-Gen Chantawit said the red emergency button, once pushed, would automatically send out a radio signal to the nearby police station, to send officers to he location within 3-10 minutes.
The device has already been installed at eight other Central shopping centers and has proven successful since police were able to arrive at the scene to deter fights and theft after receiving the radio signal, according to Gen Chantawit.
He said the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Central Pattana Pcl plan to expand the scheme to reach out to more communities throughout Bangkok and in areas with large numbers of tourists, such as at the Victory Monument and Chatuchak Market. (MCOT online news)
