BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha warned on Thursday that legal action would be imposed on a group of students from Khon Kaen University if they violated the law and asked others not to join them.
Gen. Prayut, who is also the leader of a National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), told journalists that the Dao Din student activist group could make movements against his government, but legal action would be dealt against them if they violated the law.
What would they gain from creating unrest? Their parents would be in trouble and the students themselves would lose student status, said Gen. Prayut, adding that what he is doing is for over 60 million Thais who are suffering and it is impossible for everyone to agree with him.
Urging other people not to join in the planned student movement, Gen. Prayut said his government is working for the Thais who agreed with his administration and for those who are still suffering.
Meanwhile, Manop Thip-osot, vice president of Thai Journalists Association, issued a statement saying accusations made by Gen. Prayut that certain journalists received money to attack his government were groundless.
There is no substantial evidence that some journalists received money to attack the government as charged by the prime minister, the statement said.
The prime minister cannot simply turn a deaf ear against criticism, the statement said, adding that journalists have never thought that Gen. Prayut was an enemy and the media criticisms were meant for the benefit of the country, Mr. Manop said in his statement.(TNA)
