BANGKOK, Jan 31 (TNA) – The Israeli Embassy in Thailand welcomes the release of five Thai nationals who were held hostage in Gaza for 15 months.
The Thais were among those brutally kidnapped by Hamas terrorists during the horrific attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The released individuals are Bannawat Seathao, Watchara Sriaoun, Surasak Lamnau, Sathian Suwannakham, and Pongsak Thenna. They have been transferred to safety in Israel and are being prepared for their return to Thailand.
The released hostages will receive comprehensive medical support and assistance from Israeli medical teams.
Since the start of the war, Israel has prioritized the release of both Israeli and foreign national hostages. The embassy noted that during their captivity, Hamas prevented independent humanitarian organizations, including the Red Cross, from accessing the hostages, leading to limited and uncertain information about their condition.
Israel continues to work towards the release of all remaining hostages in Gaza. Ambassador of Israel, Ms. Orna Sagiv, commented, “I am very happy to see the five Thai nationals returning today from Hamas’s captivity. Our thoughts remain with the families of those still being held hostage in Gaza, and we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to securing their freedom.”
The State of Israel reiterated its commitment to supporting the Thai victims and families affected by the October 7 massacre and the ensuing war. Israel will also provide ongoing support to the released hostages. -819 (TNA)
